USA-S
USA Swimming (USA-S) was established by Congress as the National Governing Body for competitive swimming in the United States. USA-S is a federation member of the international governing body of swimming, the Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA).
The LSC
Middle Atlantic Swimming is an administrative arm of USA Swimming -- called a Local Swimming Committee (LSC) -- which supervises competitive swimming within established geographic boundaries. There are 59 LSCs in the United States.
Boundaries
The Middle Atlantic LSC includes New Jersey, south of Mercer and Monmouth Counties; Delaware; and Pennsylvania east of and including Potter, Clinton, Centre, Huntingdon, and Bedford Counties.
Eastern Zone
Middle Atlantic Swimming is part of the Eastern Zone of the US, which includes 11 other LSCs: Allegheny Mt. (Eastern PA); Niagara, Adirondack, and Metropolitan (NY); Maryland; Virginia; Potomac Valley; New Jersey; Connecticut; New England; and Maine. All four Zones (Eastern, Southern, Central, and Western) conduct All Star competitions and Sectional Meets for teams within their Zone. [ZONE MAP]
Core Values
Middle Atlantic Swimming endorses five core values:
  1. We believe in a positive environment.
  2. We value integrity and fairness.
  3. We believe in excellence.
  4. We value leadership.
  5. We value innovation and creativity.
Our Mission

Middle Atlantic Swimming advocates the growth and development of a diverse swimming community through education, innovation and a commitment to excellence.

Governance
The LSC is governed by the House of Delegates, which includes representatives from each Club; the Board of Directors; appointed Committee Chairs; and At-Large members. Board Meetings are held at the LSC office in Wilmington, DE.   House meetings are held usually at the Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn, PA -- and are open to all members of USS.
Eastern Zone
All Star Team
The short course All Star meet is the top age group meet of the short course season. Outstanding swimmers from all over the east coast will compete for top honors. It is a great privilege to be selected to represent Middle Atlantic at this meet. Everyone who has done so in the past has had a great time.

MA may enter two swimmers in each event with a maximum of 6 events per swimmer. Swimmers who have competed in an individual event at  Senior Nationals are NOT eligible for the Zone Team. Any swimmer who has achieved a Senior National time in an individual event may not swim that event at the zone meet, unless the swimmer is 12 years old or under.

Applications for the selection for the Zone All Star Team will be available at MA meets during the short course season and are also available in the Forms Depot of the website.

No applications will be accepted after the deadline. Applications should be mailed to the Middle Atlantic office.

The Spring Zone selection process is one that takes cooperation and coordination from all. It begins with a data base of the results of Middle Atlantic sanctioned meets. Any swims done outside the LSC will need to be submitted by the swimmer with official proof of time which consists of a photocopy of the appropriate events from the official meet results or a computer disk of the meet results (Hy-Tek backup copy). Times must be accomplished at sanctioned, or approved meets, or observed by US Swimming in accordance with USS officiating procedures. Times will be updated throughout the season.

Standings will be posted at the Elite Meet and corrections should be brought to the attention of the Zone Database  Manager. Applications will be accepted until the deadline. After that time the database will consist of only those swimmers who have applied. The list will be posted at the Junior Olympic meet. High School times will be accepted if the swim is observed and results submitted one week before the start of Junior Olympics.

Please note the following additional criteria for selection:

  • Qualifying period is September 1, through Spring Age Group Championships.
  • Swimmers must have participated in 5 MA meets in the two years preceding JOs. Swimmers having only one year of registration in MA must participate in 3 MA meets in that one year.
  • First and second place swimmers in all events will be selected for the team but may not swim in that event. The meet line up will be at the sole discretion of the team coaches. Third ranked swimmers may be chosen in certain situations.
  • Each swimmer will be allowed a maximum of six events for the meet. (Must conform with meet rules.)
  • Relays will consist of Zone Team members who have qualified in individual events.
  • Swimmers must be debt free to Middle Atlantic and have no pending claims on sanctions against them.

Final selections will be made after Junior Olympics by the Coaching Staff.

Applications for coaches will be available on the Zone page of the website.. Send applications to the Middle Atlantic office. The MA Coaches Committee will select the coaching staff based on applications received.

Parents wishing to become chaperons must submit their name to the Middle Atlantic office in writing before Spring  Junior Olympics. Selection will be made after the Zone All Star Team has been chosen.

Camp Programs
The overall goal of the camp program is to identify top swimmers at all levels and help them work toward fulfilling their potential as well as help USS achieve its national goals.

USA Swimming Zone Select Camps……

Beginning in the spring of 2006, USA Swimming will sponsor four Zone Select Camps. These camps replace the current Regional Select and Regional Distance Camps. USA Swimming seeks to identify the emerging young athletes in each Zone, offering them a unique motivational and educational experience. The Zone Select Camps are viewed as an integral step for athletes to move from the local and Zone level onto to the national scene.

28 male and 28 female athletes will be selected in each of the four Zones. Selected girls must be age 12-13 at the time of selection. Selected boys must be age 13-14 at the time of selection. Age as of August 31 determines eligibility. The fastest swimmer in each Zone in each Olympic event (excluding the 50 free, including the 800 and 1500 for both sexes) will be invited for a total of 13 male and 13 female athletes. An additional 15 athletes of each sex will be selected based on IMX point scores according to the following:

  • 8 girls age 12 and 8 boys age 13
  • 7 girls age 13 and 7 boys age 14

USA Swimming seeks to identify the fastest swimmer in each event in each Zone. USA Swimming also seeks to identify athletes who successfully compete in a full menu of events. Athlete selected based on IMX scores will be those not already selected for an individual event.

Two National Select Camps are held at the Olympic Training Center each year. 2005 National Select Camps will be November 10-13 for girls and November 17-20 for boys. Athletes are selected for participation with personal coaches are invited to attend. New in 2005 are two important changes in the selection process.

1. Girls must be age 14 and under at the time of performance (May-August 2005), boys must be age 16 and under at the time of performance (May-August 2005).
2. In addition to the fastest two eligible swimmers in each event, four additional girls and four additional boys will be select based on IMX scores, for a total of 30 swimmers at each camp.

Adapted Swimming Programs
Swimmers with disabilities are athletes with the same needs, desires, thoughts, emotions and goals as any other athlete. They are entitled to compete under optimal conditions, with the best facilities and officiating available to allow them to achieve their highest competitive potential.

Middle Atlantic Swimming has an Adapted Swimming Committee to encourage opportunities for athletes with disabilities. Officials have guidelines for officiating swimmers with disabilities and for interpreting the rules in light of each swimmers situation.

Based on the recommendations of the Adapted Swimming Committee, travel funds may be provided to adapted athletes who regularly participate in Middle Atlantic programs.

OVC's
Times from all sanctioned meets within LSC are automatically submitted to the National Times Verification (NTV) database.  Times from Approved or Observed meets must be requested by the club/swimmer.  Go to the Forms Depot for an application.
