Where can I
practice my backstroke start during meet warm-ups?
Backstroke starts
are allowed only in controlled sprint lanes to help
prevent any accident. |
|
What’s wrong
with being social with my friends during meet
warm-ups?
Socializing in the
warm-up lanes makes it difficult for other swimmers
to safely do turns – and they may accidentally hurt
you while you are standing there socializing. |
|
Why must
swimmers enter the water feet first, except in
controlled sprint lanes?
It reduces the
chance of a broken neck or head injury. |
|
Why are
sprint lanes one-way during meet warm-ups??
Going only in one direction avoids having someone
swim towards a person who is diving or doing a
backstroke start from the starting block.

Does
everyone know your pool's emergency plan?
When a real emergency occurs, there's
no time to look up the plan, so everyone should know
exactly what to do. Make sure your coaches and
swimmers are prepared! |

How
are USA Swimming and Risk Management Services, Inc.
notified when an accident occurs?
The Report of Occurrence form, which
is available online, at all clubs and all meets is
sent to USA Swimming, its insurance company (Risk
Management) and the Middle Atlantic office. |
|
A
spectator who is not a member of USA Swimming was
injured at our meet. Do we need to file a Report of
Occurrence?
A Report of Occurrence form should be
completed and sent any time an injury occurs at a
USA Swimming function, whether or not it involves a
USA Swimming member. |
